About Smoketree Ranch
Welcome...
and thanks for visiting our web site. We are excited to be able to share our ranch
and horses with you! Our focus is on good riding horses that are a pleasure to
take on a trail ride, or for a drive, or to an endurance ride. We live on our
50 acre ranch located between Hesperia and Phelan in the High Desert of Southern
California.
History...
We got interested in Morgans when
we decided to find a Morgan to breed to our Egyptian-related Black Stallion. That
idea led us to purchase a big, lovely bay mare named Jasmine Breeze. We later
decided to breed her to a Morgan Stallion, but that search proved somewhat discouraging
because the modern Morgan has come to look more like a Saddlebred than a Morgan
and that wasn't what we wanted. An article on Ute Mountain Morgans and a photo
of Jake Mint set us on the path to finding a REAL Morgan - The Lippitt
Morgan - which lead to the purchase of several old-style Lippitt Morgans and begin
our breeding of these fine horses.
We stand our stalllion at stud, as
well as offer custom, short-term boarding arrangements, and some private horse
hauling. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we
can be of any help to you!
The horses of Smoketree Ranch
are managed, owned & loved by Peter and Carol Dahlberg.
Other Special Interests
We enjoy dabbling in limited distance
endurance, with our primary goal to finish the ride with sound horses. Speed and
placing are not what we are about. We tried competition trail but found the judging
to be quite subjective and when it stopped being enjoyable, we quit! We have been
riding endurance for several years now. Recently, driving has become an activity
we are pursuing.
When we aren't playing with our horses,
we occasionally visit our friends at a small, non-profit exotic animal sanctuary.
We think you'll find their site very interesting - Forever Wild Exotic Animal
Sanctuary at www.foreverwildexotics.com.
